This photo was taken during a trip to Thayer St. I composed the shot by taking a photo of a shop window, and capturimg the reflection of houses across the street. I decided to use this photograph for our first assignment of Lines and Shape. The composition of this photo also has various elements in it. The negative space of the black in the top of the photo contrasts with the positive of the white triagle and the sky. The blinds in the store window, create repetition of lines going across the photo. There is also a repetition of the triangle shape, the 'V' ' s create upside down triangles, and then the glare of light creates another triangle shape, as does the roof tops of the houses. Technically the exposure is strong, which brings out the black and white color of the photo which are rich. The contrast between the white and blacks add to the photo and brings out the other elements of the photo.
During the painting with light assignment, I was able to make this intriguing photo. The image is of Dave and I throwing two light sources at each other. The composition of this photo is admirable because it is framed well. The image does not have any access elements in the background that would distract from the interesting lights of the photo. And the way the both lights touch a corner of the photo add to the framing well. Keeping this photo in color keeps the image intriguing, if it was in black and white the pieve would not be as eye-catching. The composition could also be considered to follow the rule of thirds horizontally. The convex side of the red curve is one third, the crossing over of the red and blue lights is another third, and the convex of the blue swerve is the last third of the photograph. Experimenting with the shutter speed of the camera is a technical aspect that makes the photo great. If the shutter speed was too fast the lights would jsut be red and blue blurs, but with a slower speed the red and blue are now interesting paths. The dark lighting of the room, made the colors of the lights pop and not look over exposed or washed out. Overall the value of the colors really make this piece. As a whole the piece has a surprising artisitc effect, and unexpected composition.
During the motion lesson I was able to take some humorous action shots of Abby. Althought this photo is not the strongest technically, artistically it moves the viewer with comedic emotions. The quality of the framing is good, because all excess elements in the background are eliminated which allows the viewer to appreciate the motion in the photo. The rule of thirds could also be considered for this photo, because if you look closely the back left wall and stairs creates on line down the photo which creates on third, the second third would be Abby, and the last third would be made by the stari railing in the right hand corner. In the last photo I was able to catch an interesitng photo wil a slow shutter speed, but using a faster shutter speed is how I caught Abby jumping without any blur in the picture. The lighting and color of the photo are quality, so the whites pop when contrasted with the dark blacks.
I found the reflection assignment to be quite confusing, but through my confusion I was able to achieve the strong beauty of a shot. The image was taken by using several mirrors, kitchen supplies, and Photoshop. The repition of the different kitchen supplies and their reflections makes the piece confusing to look at and dynamic. The black and white color of the photo are always eerie, and more interesting than if the color was in color. In black and white it is diifcutl to determine the subject of the photo. The different shapes created by the subjects aslo add to the composition of the piece. Artistically the photo gives an unusual composition, a mystified feeling, and all kinds of moods.
During Texture, Rythm, and Repition I was able to produce to this engaging photograph. The texture of the tree is capture so well in the photo it is as if the viewer could feel the moss. The point of view of the composition is also different, it is taken looking almost vertically down the tree, so the moss looks almost flat and standing at the same time which is interesting. And the negative space of the ground compliments the positive space of the tree, by framing it nicely. The exposure of the shot is what makes the texture pop, because the photo does not look too washed of color. When looking at this photo a viewer would be moved to an eco-friendly mood, which is more positive and upbeat. The photo seems to jsut have a lighter mood.
Contrasting the previous image, this treescape photo gives off a darker, mysterious mood. The point of view of the trees, just adds to this mystery because it is hard to tell how the head should adjust to see the photo. The lines, repitition and contrast in this photo contribute so much to the compostion of the piece. The two dark trees in the middle of the photo lead the eye throughout the picture and add a certain amount of depth to the image. The black and white color of the photo is what really adds to the dark, mysterious photo. By changing the lighting to cloudy day, and taking the photo in black and white I was able to capture the contrast in this photo and technically make it admirable
